SMS sender names: only registered names get through

20 October 2026 · 1 minute read

In short

Since 1 October, a text message with a name as sender only arrives if that name is listed in the public directory of the regulator RTR. The aim is to stop scam texts.

The path of a text message

Customer's phonereceives the text
Yes: The text is delivered and shows your name.
No: The text is not delivered.

What does this mean for your company?

If you send texts with a name as sender, check now whether your name is listed. The name must clearly belong to your company: only “Hausbank” may use “Hausbank” as a sender, for example. Your SMS provider registers the name for you. Afterwards, send a test message to your own number.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if my name is not in the directory?
The text is not delivered. Your customers do not receive it at all.
Who registers the name?
Your SMS provider enters it into the RTR directory on behalf of your company. Ask them whether this has already been done.
